Most of the fantastic content is inspired by real-world folklore, myths and legends instead of high fantasy works. Whereas most fantasy video games are set in an alternate universe, Ecstatica is set in Northern Europe 928 A.D., specifically in the fictional town of Tirich and its direct surroundings.
